Okay, I'm back from camping. It wasn't very much fun, as I had expected, but it was... okay, I guess.
I was forced to go canoeing and got sunburned :<
I didn't really get to see very many animals, which is the only part of camping I like anyway. There was like, one gopher tortoise, a sandhill crane, a skink, and some birds.

I think the best part was these weird little birds called plovers, particularly kildeer, a type of plover... I think they're beach birds, but they had some chicks which were adorable. And I could get close to them because they couldn't fly away C:<
The parents have like, some really, really dumb defense where they basically lay in the dirt and act retarded.
I guess it's to try and distract predators from getting close to their nests or babies, but the fact that they get up and run away really fast when you get too close kind of ruins the illusion.

Wiki has this to say: "These birds will frequently use the "broken-wing act" to distract predators from their nests. This involves the bird walking away from its nesting area holding its wing in a position that simulates an injury and then flapping around on the ground emitting a distress call. The predators then think they have easy prey and are attracted to this seemingly injured bird and away from the nest."
